2016 Keynote Speaker: Susan Combs

“As the former Texas Comptroller and Commissioner of the Texas Department of Agriculture, I fought hard for the health of Texans. Now, IT’S TIME TEXAS is leading that critical fight. I am honored to come together with my fellow health champions at this year’s Summit, where I will challenge attendees to join me in redoubling our collective efforts to create a healthier future for the Lone Star State.”

The Symposium

A Note From Our Moderator
Written By Kim Wilson, DrPH, MPIA

Over the past 10 months, I interviewed over 50 leaders from across the state and a variety of sectors on behalf of IT’S TIME TEXAS. I asked these leaders what it would look like and what it would take to build a culture of health that reaches all communities in Texas. Our research was sparked by last year’s Summit Symposium: Creating a Culture of Health in Texas, a rich discussion that deserved further exploration.

Join us at this year’s Symposium on Tuesday, August 2nd from 9-11 AM for a presentation and panel discussion on what we learned, with practical takeaways for individuals, organizations and coalitions focused on improving the health of Texas residents. Symposium panelists, who were all interviewed as part of the research process, include:

  • David Lakey, Associate Vice Chancellor of Population Health, UT System
  • Esteban López, Texas Chief Medical Officer & Southwest Texas President, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas
  • Jeremy Lyon, Superintendent, Frisco Independent School District
  • Belinda Reininger, Former Chair and Member, Brownsville Community Advisory Board
  • Kate Rogers, Vice President of Communications & Health Promotion, H-E-B
  • Jeff Skelton, Chair, San Antonio Mayor’s Fitness Council

I greatly look forward to moderating this conversation and sharing our findings with all of you!
